Beauty and The Beast at Orpheum Theatre Minneapolis

Beauty and The Beast, the musical, debuted on Broadway way back in 1994. There's no reason to sugarcoat this, it was bested because of the success of the Lion King. Over the years, there have been different attempts to bring the story back into the premium theater scene. After a successful run in London's West End, and a long tour of Australia, this revival is currently on a US tour. One of the shows just so happens to be in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Tuesday 12th August 2025.

In other versions of the play, the design of the set and the tone of the costumes were both kind of dark. This brought a lot of weight on The Beast character. This revival is taking a completely different approach. The emphasis is more on Belle, as it should've always been. This time around, the audience is greeted with thoughtfully designed backgrounds and colorful costumes that burst off the stage. When you pair that with the jolly soundtrack, you begin to see why both the British and Australian theater goers flocked to this revival. Sorry for the spoilers, but the magnificent entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village have, is the ideal contrast to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that people were super amazed by this point in the story. Things likely won't be any different this Tuesday at Orpheum Theatre and the entire US tour for that matter. Gaston's introduction and musical solo tend to be fan favorites. It's actually Belle that the story revolves around though, and for this US Tour they've picked a great actress for the role. By the end of the show, you'll be singing and dancing as you walk out of Orpheum Theatre.
