AN EMPIRE’S REBIRTH
A Broadway blockbuster packed with hip-hop beats, history lessons, and engaging storytelling, HAMILTON chronicles the meteoric rise and tragic fall of Alexander Hamilton. An orphaned immigrant from the West Indies who played a great role in the American Revolutionary War as an aide-de-camp to George Washington, his marriage, his career as a lawyer and Secretary of the Treasury, and his duel with Aaron Burr.
With fierce ambition, the story is told by a diverse cast that reflects how America came to be. From political rap battles to intense rivalries, it’s an engaging and immersive showdown of legacy, loyalty, and who gets to tell your story. It’s an empire’s rebirth — from being one of the Founding Fathers of the United States to a cultural transformation, wherein Hamilton shows “America Then Told by America Now,” featuring a multiracial casting as the Founding Fathers, showing how America came to be a melting pot of diverse cultures.
A story of a lifetime, Hamilton is a great showcase of dramatic storytelling. Rather than telling history in traditional forms, it heavily utilized hip hop and rap beats in staging a great cultural revolution. Packed with high-stakes politics, brotherhood, battles, and sacrifices, its non-stop score offers a relentless perspective to history that shaped America today. Captivating millions of fans around the world, it proves that history is anything but dull.
THERE’S PLENTY TO LOVE ABOUT HAMILTON
Brought to life by great masterminds – First of all, Hamilton was written by the three-time Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, based on the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. Miranda is an award-winning librettist who penned many great works — including In The Heights, Bring It On, Disney’s Encanto, The Little Mermaid live action, and more. Directed by Thomas Kail along with sick choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler. Its one-of-a-kind score was arranged by Alex Lacamoire, and all in all Hamilton is a flawless combination of all these elements coming together. With creative powerhouses behind the scenes, they definitely achieved a creative peak. With tours around the globe, Hamilton’s legacy is one that continues to stand the test of time.
It’s a visual feast – Hamilton brings a revolutionary staging, a dual-turntable (or “donut”) system that can spin at different speeds or directions to create a rapid atmosphere for its cinematic and continuous storytelling. Also, the cast’s costumes perfectly depict the era that made this history, stunningly crafted for accuracy and top-notch aesthetics fitting with the times. It’s also a rustic, multi-level wooden set that makes a great backdrop for the revolutionary American tale.
WHAT CRITICS SAY
“The music is exhilarating, but the lyrics are a big surprise. The sense, as well as the sound of the sung dialogue, has been purposely suited to each character,” — Variety
“’Hamilton’ is the most exciting and significant musical of the decade. Sensationally potent and theatrically vital, it is plugged straight into the wall socket of contemporary music,” — The Wall Street Journal
“Historic. ‘Hamilton’ is brewing up a revolution. This is a show that aims impossibly high and hits its target. It’s probably not possible to top the adrenaline rush,” — The New York Times
A review by The Economist sums solidifies the resounding praise that Hamilton received — claiming it got “near-universal critical acclaim.” In 2019, The Guardian features Hamilton on their list, as the second-greatest theatrical work since 2000. With legendary casting, a unique hip-hop score that drives the whole story, and a modern take on the Founding Fathers, Hamilton is definitely a musical production that’ll go down history books.
“Well, America turned out to have a long, successful run. So, no doubt, will “Hamilton.” — The New York Post.
