Composer Charlie Smalls and playwright William F. Brown’s Afro-American adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s children’s novel ‘The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz’ is a magical, inclusive Broadway standard that connects to the much-adored disco and motown sounds of the 1970s. THE WIZ made its stage debut in 1974 in Baltimore, after which it moved to the Majestic Theatre on Broadway where it ran for four years of sold-out performances.
