Les Miserables at Orpheum Theatre Minneapolis

Set largely during the time span concurrent with the 1832 French rebellion in Paris, France, the musical, Les Misérables is the tale of Jean Valjean, a local of Paris, France who was sentenced for close to 20 years because of a small act of theft for his nephew. Despite nearing the end of his sentence, he breaks free and searches for redemption as an honest man; he then uses a brand new name as Monsieur Madeleine, while still hiding from the law and Javert, an officer loyal to the letter of the law and determined to catch and bring Valjean face the consequences of his previous escape.

Transpiring over a period of roughly twenty years across the musical's two acts, Jean Valjean is involved in one way or another with a few key characters throughout the musical – Fantine is one of Monsieur Madeleine’s factory laborers who gives birth to an illegitimate child; Cosette is the foster child of Monsieur Madeleine, who is in fact Fantine’s infant; Marius, a student fighting for the revolt and the love interest of Cosette. Other individuals shown in the musical include the Thénardiers, abusive proprietors who also lead a street gang and are consumed with taking advantage of the chaos; Eponine, their child, who hides her true feelings for Marius; and comrades of the insurgency specifically Gavroche, a young but talented orphan, and the opposition’s fearless leader, Enjolras.

This motley ensemble of characters who are part of one struggle and their unique tales are brought to life on live stage, not just with the show's 1800s French-inspired clothing and prop creations, but distinctly with the musical being sung-through fully from start to finish. With hit songs like “I Dreamed a Dream” and “One Day More” as anthems of its astounding musical score, Les Mis is able to communicate the underlying motives beneath every character that unveils the magic of Les Mis on stage.

The global hit's next stage will be in the beloved Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, produced for a limited period on Saturday 21st February 2026.
