Chicago is in simple words "Wicked and Wonderful"!The showstopper, seductive, elegant, and entertaining Broadway hit musical is scheduled for its latest stop in Minneapolis, this January, at the glamorous Orpheum Theatre. Enjoy Chicago this winter in the charming Minneapolis, on Saturday 31st January 2026, at the phenomenal Orpheum Theatre.
This universal tale of fame, fortune, and musicals, explores the depths people delve to satisfy their craving for fame. Chicago is a gripping and captivating story conveyed through music and dance.
The show is the second-longest running performance ever to appear on Broadway, outranked only by "The Phantom of the Opera". Chicago tells the story of two competing and vaudevillian dancers named Velma and Roxie locked in jail for murder.
While Velma is already a established vaudevillian performer, Roxie is a aspiring performer trying to establish her fame. Although they both were convicted of murder, they had different motives. Velma's motive was jealousy and rage after finding her husband and sister having an affair. In Contrast, Roxie's motive was calculated ambition and ruthlessness. Thus, unlike Velma's action, which was driven by passion, Roxie's strategy was deliberate, and was intentionally used to attract attention.
Interwoven in the plot, Chicago also exposes the clandestine game played by law enforcement and civilians. Roxie's and Velma's lawyer, Billy Flynn, who excels at defending women prisoners accused of murder, is seen transforming courtroom proceedings into theatrical events, by changing his client's trial into theatrical productions composed of spectacle and sorrow.
While Matron "Mama" Morton is seen helping the two convicts maintain a connection with the outside world, mainly with Billy, and manipulating the other felons for her benefit.
Chicago is an intriguing performance that illustrates the global power game and the different forms it could take such as; attraction, fortune, fame, and intellect to manipulate the masses for individuals' ultimate personal satisfaction.
This theatrical masterpiece has received an array of esteemed awards including a total of 6 Tony Awards, 5 Drama Desk Awards, 1 Grammy Award, 1 Olivier Award, 6 Academy Awards (Oscars), 3 Golden Globe Awards, 1 BAFTA Award, and 2 SAG Awards.
The performance has left a unforgettable mark on the musical and celebrity culture since its release, including its impact on American musicals, dance and style, film adaptation, Cultural Commentary, and future productions.
