A Beautiful Noise showcases a team of creative artists, notably under the direction of Michael Mayer and choreography by Award winner Steven Hoggett. The performing side, on the other hand, offers the skilled talents of dozens of singers and actors. On the forefront are Will Swenson and Mark Jacoby, who play a young and aging Neil, respectively. Swenson, in particular, is often lauded for his impressive energy and magnetism that seems to be borrowed straight from Neil Diamond in his prime. Adding to the amazing cast, Robyn Hurder will be playing as Marcia Murphey and Linda Powell is cast as Neil’s therapist.
Together, the cast portrays an intimate recount of the superstar’s journey, from his wiry Brooklyn days to his ardent chart-topping years. This fall musical doesn’t evade the ugly and uncomfortable, but acknowledges the hardships that molded Neil to who he has become today. The master performer himself collaborated with the production to ensure that everything is laid bare, “warts and all”, for people to grasp the person behind the star.
