Plot

Set in 1922 Long Island, the tale follows Midwesterner Nick Carraway as he rents a modest cottage adjacent to the extravagant millionaire Jay Gatsby. Intrigued by Gatsby's extravagant lifestyle and mysterious persona, Nick uncovers Gatsby's obsessive pursuit to reunite with his former sweetheart, Daisy Buchanan, now wedded to the wealthy but unfaithful Tom. The story takes a turn into unrealistic dreams amidst social pressures. Through soaring songs like "Roaring On," the musical crafts a tale of desire, deception and unavoidable demise.

Creative Team

This outstanding production is put together by a talented team led by Ryan McCartan as the charming Jay Gatsby, Aisha Jackson as the ethereal Daisy Buchanan, Michael Maliakel as narrator Nick Carraway, Samantha Pauly as the clever Jordan Baker, Austin Colby as the domineering Tom Buchanan, Charlie Pollock as the downtrodden George Wilson, and Eric Anderson as the shrewd Meyer Wolfsheim. Directed by Marc Bruni, with dynamic choreography by Dominique Kelley and an unique score by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen.

Adapted on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 classic, "The Great Gatsby" premiered at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 before making its Broadway debut in April 2024 at the Broadway Theatre. It won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical, celebrating its opulent 1920s aesthetics.
