Known primarily as the frontman of the Talking Heads, David Byrne has had a long and phenomenally successful career. Formed in 1975 and releasing their first album “Talking Heads:77” in 1977 to a greatly positive critical and commercial response. They went on to collaborate with Brian Eno, stretching the boundaries of what was typical for pop music at the time. David Byrne’s influence on the band has always been that – one of experimentation and innovation, and his unique ideas have changed the shape of all music in the 80s and ever since.
His latest solo album, a typically Byrne-seque reflection on the state of America today, was inspired in part by the book “Democracy In America,” by Alexis de Tocqueville’s. “Many of the chapter titles are questions,” he says. “You can tell he wishes America well, but he sees a lot of problems in store. He sees it as a grand experiment, which a lot of people did at the time. That utopian sense is still there but it’s very close to being completely extinguished.”
